It’s an exciting time to be a Toyota fan. With a camouflaged car running around on public roads, we knew something was brewing from company and the Gazoo Racing (GR) engineers. Now a mysterious message on Toyota’s Japanese website and a new billboard at Japan’s Fuji Speedway seems to hint the long-awaited Lexus LFA successor’s or some other Toyota supercar’s official reveal might be just around the corner. Here’s what we know.
The billboard installed recently at Fuji Speedway shows images of the Toyota 2000GT and the Lexus LFA along with a clipped image of this new car. It reveals everything from the right front (including a “GR” badge) to nearly the center of the vehicle. That’s where a Lexus or Toyota badge would live; the lack of it being visible here keeps the possibility open as to which brand this car represents.
If this turns out to be a Lexus product it will be an interesting new development for Toyota and GR. To this point, no Lexus road car has worn the Gazoo Racing badge. The only Lexus that has boasted GR branding is the RC F GT3 race car for the company’s motorsports customers. If this indeed is the first Lexus production vehicle with a GR badge, it could be a hint even more are on the way.
However, there is a strike against the likelihood of this being a Lexus supercar. During the 2025 edition of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, Lexus unveiled a new concept car that had even more LFA-inspired features. It also didn’t look anything like the camouflaged car running around Fuji Speedway and spotted driving on Californian roads. This could mean Toyota plans to have one halo sports-car product while Lexus could have another, with the latter even possibly serving as the LC replacement.
The timeline of these new cars began when Toyota first showed off a concept model called the “GR GT3” during the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon. It was a sports car with a traditional body design featuring a long hood and a short rear deck but with motorsports features like a front splitter, side-exit exhaust, and adjustable swan-neck rear wing. Around late July to early August 2024, spy images and video captured an interesting coupe running around Toyota-owned Fuji in Oyama, Japan. This was clearly a new iteration of the GR GT3, but this new coupe’s body was more production-like and featured a new nose and rear fascia reminiscent of the LFA.
