VinFast is making its debut in India with two SUVs. Vietnam’s largest carmaker is challenging global giants like Tesla and BYD by offering competitively lower prices, with models starting at an introductory price of $18,127.
VinFast, a carmaker that only makes EVs, is making an entrance in India with two SUVs that are more budget-friendly. The VF6 is a compact SUV priced at $18,127, while the VF7 is a mid-sized model starting at $22,659.
These are cheaper when compared to other EV brands in the country. For instance, Tesla’s Model Y costs about $68,000, while BYD’s ATTO 3 has a starting price of $28,400. However, VinFast’s lower pricing is only available to the first 1,500 buyers or until November 30, 2025, whichever comes first.
The South Asian automaker is the first electric-only company to build a factory in India. VinFast’s decision to build a factory in India will enable it to avoid the country’s 70 percent import tax, thereby drastically reducing the sales price.
The plant, located in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, opened in July 2025 after VinFast invested $500 million. Currently, it can produce 50,000 cars a year, with the possibility of scaling up to 150,000 annually. It is VinFast’s first plant outside Vietnam, following the establishment of two in its home country.
With its first showroom opened in July 2025, VinFast plans to secure 35 dealerships across 27 Indian cities by the end of the year.
