Toyota GR Supra’s Time Is Almost Up As Limited A90 Final Edition Model Breaks Cover

The Toyota GR Supra doesn’t have much time left. Toyota has announced a special farewell edition of its sporty coupe, bidding the car goodbye. This is the Toyota GR Supra A90 Final Edition, and it’s not for the faint of heart.

Toyota dared to breathe new life into the Supra almost six years ago with development assistance from BMW. The famous model name returned for the first time in decades on a coupé at the beginning of 2019, this time a car on a BMW platform. It thus also became a sports car imbued with German technology. The Toyota GR Supra does not have much longer. Toyota announces a special and immediately quite spectacular farewell edition: the GR Supra A90 Final Edition limited to 300 units.

Farewell Edition

Toyota calls the A90 Final Edition—the A90 refers to the model code—”the ultimate version of the current generation Supra’. Of course, the 3.0-six-in-line from BMW is in the long nose. However, that machine now does not deliver 340 hp and 500 Nm as usual, but 435 hp and 570 Nm. That power reaches the rear wheels via a manual six-speed gearbox. The automatic is not available for the Final Edition. The top speed of the top Supra is 270 km/h higher than that of the regular versions with six cylinders (250 km/h).

The GR Supra A90 Final Edition is more than just a Supra with more power. For example, the farewell edition has extensively adjustable springs and dampers from KW, a modified camber front and rear, and a differently tuned differential that should further counteract understeer. The power steering has been adjusted differently and should provide more direct steering behaviour; the chassis is stiffer thanks to reinforcements in the luggage compartment; the subframe has been reinforced; and the stabilizer bars front and rear are stronger than those of a regular Supra. More adjustments? There are. For example, the Supreme Supra has lightweight 19-inch (front) and 20-inch (rear) wheels, with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber wrapped around them. These tires are also a centimetre wider than the regular Supra tires. The A90 Final Edition also has extra powerful Brembo brakes, and things like the crankcase and the radiator fan have been revised. Also new: the GR Supra A90 Final Edition has a second, smaller radiator for additional cooling.

From the outside, you can recognize the GR Supra A90 Final Edition by its matte black paint and the many aerodynamic extras made of carbon fibre. We see lips, edges, spoilers, and wings all around made of lightweight material, and even a swan neck’ spoiler on top of the tailgate. Most of these extras are copied from the GR Supra GT4 race car. This also applies to the Akrapovic silencer in the exhaust system. The interior is mainly characterized by its special bucket seats from Recaro in red and black.

GR Supra Lightweight Evo

More GR Supra news comes in the form of the Toyota GR Supra Lightweight Evo. This is a sharpened variant of the existing GR Supra Lightweight. It has revised software, a redesigned differential, and, like the GR Supra A90 Final Edition, this version also has adjusted camber front and rear. The GR Supra Lightweight Evo also has larger Brembo brake discs, a stiffer suspension, a reinforced chassis, and a new carbon fibre ducktail at the rear.

The GR Supra Lightweight Evo and GR Supra A90 Final Edition can be ordered in Europe from January. If they are sold out, it will be over and done for the Supra.
