Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Drops The 4.5 V8 Turbodiesel Model

The Toyota model that we have reported on several times, the Land Cruiser 70, has been on the market since 1984, and despite the arrival of its successor, it has continued to be offered in certain markets all these years. The model is particularly popular in Australia, where several versions are offered, and an upgraded version was recently introduced.

Toyota has now stated that, under the influence of active regulations and community expectations, they are forced to make some changes to the offer. The most significant innovation is the phasing out of the 4.5 V8 turbodiesel.

The engine will gradually be withdrawn from the offer according to certain versions, but this does not mean that it is currently available. Namely, at one point, the Australians confiscated all V8 models two years in advance, which means that the more modern 2.8 turbodiesel engine remains an option. Current waiting lists for certain versions are over six months long.

The turbodiesel four-cylinder produces a little over 200 hp, and from autumn it will be offered with a five-speed manual transmission. It’s the same transmission that comes with the V8 engine, but now with shorter gear ratios in the first three gears. At the same time, the fifth gear has now been lengthened so that consumption is lower and driving noise is lower.

Let’s remind you that, apart from Australia, this iconic model can also be bought on the Japanese market. Also, the same model is offered in the UAE, but in combination with a 4.0 V6 petrol engine.
