Toyota Overcomes Problems, Global Sales Improve For the First Time In Six Months

Global sales of carmaker Toyota Motor, including subsidiaries Daihatsu Motor and Hino Motors, rose 0.7 percent to 924,918 units in July, the first increase after five straight months of decline, the company said in a statement.

World production increased by 0.6 percent to 923,658 units, writes Bloomberg. While demand was strong in some Asian countries, such as for SUVs in India, recalls of the Grand Highlander and Lexus TX models in the US led to a decrease in sales in July.

And while Toyota’s new locally produced Granvia minivan has had strong sales in China, the company still faces stiff competition from the country’s domestic automakers, as well as competition from abroad.

Japan’s public broadcaster NHK reported earlier this month that Toyota had revised its annual global production from 10.3 million units to 9.8 million units due to the scandal, specifically cheating in the testing of seven car models.
