What It Is The 2027 Toyota Corolla will continue to be a popular compact sedan for the automaker. While passenger car sales have declined in the U.S. for the past few years, the Corolla is one of Toyota’s most popular models. We expect the Corolla to receive a whole new design inside and out, increasing its technology offerings and making its cabin a bit more spacious.
The hatchback model should continue to be around for 2027, with the GR variant serving as the halo at the top of the lineup.
Why It Matters The Toyota Corolla has long been a popular and massively successful sedan. Now serving as Toyota’s entry-level model for the U.S. market, the Corolla (the present model of which is pictured below) has a long history throughout the world. The new generation will give the compact sedan a breath of fresh air, bringing a new exterior design and a new in-cabin experience.
While Corolla sales have declined from their pre-pandemic highs, when the automaker sold more than 300,000 units, Toyota still sells more than 200,000 Corollas each year in the U.S. Demand has proven to be strong over the years for the model that became the most popular car in the world in the 1990s. Toyota has sold in excess of 50 million units globally since the Corolla’s launch, and this new generation aims to improve that number.
Platform and Powertrain We expect the 2027 Toyota Corolla to get a full redesign, with a hybrid-only lineup for the sedan. Toyota’s aggressive hybrid strategy is a proven success, with the automaker having eight nameplates that are hybrid-only. The 2027 Corolla should continue to be based on the TNGA platform, but we figure Toyota will make changes to its suspension tuning and structural rigidity for a better ride.
The next Corolla sedan will likely be powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder hybrid, while the GR Corolla should continue to use its 1.6-liter three-cylinder gas engine. We expect horsepower and torque to stay at the same levels as today’s Corolla Hybrid and GR Corolla, with the sporty model offering standard all-wheel drive.
