Toyota Produces Its 5 Millionth Vehicle In Europe

Toyota Motor Europe is marking a significant moment with the production of its 5 millionth vehicle at the Barnaston plant in Derbyshire in the United Kingdom. This achievement highlights Barnaston’s key role within Toyota’s European manufacturing network, confirming its importance to the UK automotive industry and the company’s global operations.

Since its establishment in 1989, Toyota has invested over €3.25 billion in the Barnaston facility. It was also the first Toyota plant outside of Japan to produce hybrid vehicles. Today, 100% of its production is hybrid vehicles.

The Jubilee model is the Corolla GR Sport Hatchback hybrid. The Corolla is still the best-selling car in the world, with more than 50 million units sold globally. Now in its 12th generation, the Corolla continues to maintain quality, durability and reliability, while integrating the latest innovations in safety, connectivity and performance.

Toyota Manufacturing UK includes the Barnaston plant and Deeside engine plant. Currently, they directly employ around 3,000 people. Thousands more are involved in Toyota’s extensive supply chain. Significantly, around 85% of vehicles produced in Great Britain are exported, primarily to the countries of the European Union and other European markets.
