Toyota Stops Supplying Three Vehicle Models In Japan Over Irregularities

Toyota temporarily stopped supplying three vehicle models in Japan. The car manufacturer came to this decision after failing to comply with Japanese laws and regulations regarding vehicle certification.

In Japan, Toyota is temporarily suspending deliveries of the Corolla Fielder, Corolla Axio, and Yaris Cross. Toyota reports reporting incorrect data based on pedestrian and occupant protection tests. Other manufacturers, such as Honda, Mazda, and Suzuki, have also been reprimanded by the Ministry of Transport. The irregularities came to light because the ministry had asked 85 manufacturers and suppliers to report violations. That call followed a scandal at Toyota subsidiary Daihatsu. It reported in December that it had manipulated safety tests for years, at least since 1989. As a result, production was halted, and Toyota also had to lower its production targets.

“It is extremely regrettable that further unlawful acts have come to light,” the Japanese ministry said in a statement on Monday. These “undermine user confidence and undermine the foundation of the vehicle certification system.”. The ministry further states that inspections will follow at the manufacturers’ factories.

Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda has apologized to customers but assured them that the vehicles “comply with legal standards.”. The same applied to Honda cars, the manufacturer reported. Although Honda did state that ‘incorrect’ data was found in tests regarding the noise and engine power of vehicles sold in the past,.
